HYMNS OF THE REPUBLIC

This interactive multimedia piece focuses upon the ever shifting ethos of American life. It is filled with observations of contemporary lifestyle, culture and politics portrayed through digitized photographs, video and sound. This collage of imagery reflects the contemporary milieu with observations that range from disturbing to perplexing. The work is intended to reveal and give expression the complexities that constitute contemporary American life.

"Hymns of the Republic" utilizes a very simple interface in which key images continuously move across the screen. Each of these images are active "buttons" that may be clicked by the viewer. Once activated, the program branches to a segment that presents a short sequence structured to express an aspect of American life. At the conclusion of the segment, the program returns to the animated button interface permitting another selection. The simplicity of the interface has been intentionally designed to maximize presentation of content.
