TATTOO
3 is a documentary created during the Third Annual New York City
Tattoo Convention spring 2000 in the Roseland Ballroom, NYC. Individuals
were asked their reasons for “collecting” tattoos and the personal
meanings they ascribe to these body ornamentations.
The video has been constructed in such a way that individuals tell their collection
of surprising, humorous and earnest stories that reveal a fascinating range
of intentions that underlie this popular phenomenon. own stories without
using additional narration.
The piece is constructed of digital video segments, augmented by still photographs
used in the introduction. All footage and imagery was shot by Thomas Porett
and was edited on a Macintosh G3 computer using Final Cut Pro software.
COWBOY
ACTION SHOOTING, is a sixteen minute documentary of this sport
growing in popularity among older retired individuals that combines
guns and nostalgia for the “Old West.” Individuals gather
for monthly competitions that consist of a series scenarios. They shoot "cowboy" loads
of soft lead bullets against heavy metal targets.
FightNight,
a twelve minute documentary of an evening of prize fights held in Philadelphia
at a venue called the “Arts Palace.” It consists
of a series of interviews, fights, ring girls and associates of the game.
For
Jack NZ is a visual/music piece that is dedicated to my brother-in-law
Jack Cross who died in Tauranga, New Zealand. The work is derived from shells
on the beach opposite the harbor where he drowned.
This piece is one of nine Electronic Poems that have been created by converting
still images into a matrix of motion that are intended to be viewed as visual
music. The sound track has been realized using digital synthesizers Reason
and Live.
The original work exists as a high definition video and is available on a
standard definition DVD as one of nine video art pieces at dimagery.com.
The title of
the DVD is Electronic Poems.
